Bloomtown: A Different Story is a turn-based social JRPG set in a surreal world with a dark twist, from the makers of the excellent Graveyard Keeper. Think Stranger Things, by way of Stardew Valley, but with turn-based combat, and it arrives on PS5 and PS4 next month, on 24th September.
Set in a "seemingly pleasant 1960s Americana world", you play as Emily and her younger brother Chester, who's been sent on a summer holiday to their grandma's supposedly quiet, cosy town. But when children start to disappear, and the stuff of nightmares begins to touch reality, it's up to a small group of friends to band together to save the inhabitants of Bloomtown. You can get a better idea of what's in store with the trailer below.
What do you make of Bloomtown: A Different Story? Does it look like an adventure worth undertaking? Would your dog make for a compelling party member? Let us know in the comments section below.

This…actually looks bloody awesome! Just added it to my wishlist.
This looks really cool! Excellent trailer. I dig how it presents as a slice of life, relaxing kiddie RPG but starts to seem... off... and then seemingly goes off the rails. Aesthetic reminds me of Chained Echoes. I'll be following this one!
You had me at “Surreal turn-based JRPG”
Looks great, getting a Gravity Falls vibe from it.
Definitely peaked my interest! I’d like to hear how the story and mechanics are before I dive in, could be great, or could be a great idea executed unexcitingly.
Wishlisted. Looked really good.
Totally up my alley. Can't resist stuff in that sort of '80s Amblin Entertainment mold.
Hmmm...not bad, color me intrigued.
@Intr1n5ic It even has a Gruncle Stan narrator.
This looks surrreealgood. I’ll definitely be picking it up next month.
Wouldn’t the game have to be made in Japan to be considered a JRPG?…. This doesn’t look Japan made.
@Pandalulz Yeah the voice actor for the granddad is great 😄. It would be cool if the game utilised that but it's probably just for the trailer.
Oh yeah I'm getting it. Absolutely perfect timing too since September looks pretty barren.
Not my preferred artstyle, but all the rest looks interesting. I'll probably check this out.
From the ps store description, sounds like it has a bit of a pokemon/ persona thing going on, with catching and fusing monsters, that you can use/ summon in battle.
